Report: Celtics, Rockets engaged in Capela trade talks
Another team has entered the sweepstakes for Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela.
The Boston Celtics are engaged in trade talks with the Rockets for the 6-foot-10 center, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Celtics hold three first-round picks in this year's draft and would need to send out $10 million in salary in a potential deal for Capela, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
While Daniel Theis has done an admirable job as Boston's starting center, the club lacks size in its frontcourt.
Houston is pursuing a first-round pick to flip into a separate deal for a wing and another center, Wojnarowski reports. Forwards Robert Covington and Andre Iguodala are reportedly among several targets for the Rockets.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are said to have sought two first-round picks in return for Covington, while the Memphis Grizzlies have been looking for a first-round selection in exchange for Iguodala since acquiring him this past offseason.
The Atlanta Hawks have also been linked to Capela and remain a possible landing spot for him, Wojnarowski adds. The 25-year-old is averaging 13.9 points and ranks fourth in the Association with 13.8 boards per contest.
Capela is in the second season of a five-year, $90-million contract. He's owed $14.9 million for 2019-20.
