Kings' Hield seeking extension: 'I want to make Sacramento my home'

Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield has flourished since his arrival in California's capital two years ago in the DeMarcus Cousins blockbuster trade. For Hield, there's no other place he'd rather be long term.

"As a player, you want to have that trust that the franchise has your back and we're just waiting for them to make a move and come to an agreement," Hield told Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee. "They're talking, but nothing is moving yet. Nothing has moved. I'm ready to make things happen, man.

"I want to make Sacramento my home. I'm ready to get this shit done. I want to be here and if it doesn't happen, then things can go the other way."

Hield averaged a career-high 20.7 points during the 2018-19 campaign and finished seventh in the NBA with a 42.7% clip from distance. He also made 51% of his corner threes, which ranked in the 95th percentile among wing players, according to Cleaning the Glass.

Hield is eligible to receive a four-year, $130.7-million contract or a five-year designated player max extension worth up to about $170 million. The Oklahoma product will become a restricted free agent next summer if Sacramento is unable to agree on a new deal with Hield before Oct. 21.

"I know what I'm worth," Hield said. "I know what I bring to the table. I know what my value is. Not many guys can shoot the ball like me in the league. I make other guys better by just being on the court because they can't leave me, and if they leave me it's 45% my shot is going in, so I'm sure other teams would like that, too."
