Beverley says he left $9M-$10M on the table to re-sign with Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley had an opportunity to cash in during free agency.

But the 30-year-old appreciated that the Clippers organization allowed him "to be Pat," and in the end, that was the ultimate incentive for Beverley to re-sign with the club instead of joining the Sacramento Kings.

"My teammates brought me back of course, but it's all the team," Beverley told Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times. "I got a bigger offer from Sacramento and I took $9 (million), $10 million less to come here. ...

"It was the right decision. Of course, the human part of you wants to take as much money as you see, but all money isn't good money. I did what was best for me and my family and I did what was best to stay on a winning team, and I feel like I made the right decision."

Beverley's new deal is for three years and worth $40 million, which was what he reportedly sought entering free agency. The Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls were also said to be seeking his services.

Beverley averaged 7.6 points, five boards, and 3.8 assists per contest across 78 appearances last season, but he's more known for being a defensive pest who often gets into the grill of opposing players.

In addition, the Clippers apparently added small forward Maurice Harkless on Monday as part of the four-team Jimmy Butler deal.

Even with Beverley and Harkless on board, L.A. still has a max-salary slot available and has been linked to Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard.
