Report: 76ers consider firing Colangelo as investigation turns to wife

Bryan Colangelo's days in the City of Brotherly Love appear to be on life support.

The Philadelphia 76ers are seriously considering firing their president and general manager as the team's internal investigation over multiple Twitter burner accounts turns to Colangelo's wife, league sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe and Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ownership is reportedly embarrassed over The Ringer's report connecting Colangelo to a number of burner accounts that have not only published classified information, but also made several outrageous remarks about players on the roster, media members, and executives across the Association.

Even if the investigation - which is still ongoing and could be completed by Friday - proves Colangelo's innocence, ownership has reportedly shown few signs he'll be let off the hook should a family member or associate be behind the accounts.

Colangelo has also had discussions with the Sixers' brass over the possibility that his wife, Barbara Bottini, could be responsible, according to Lowe and Wojnarowski.

Several staff members working underneath Colangelo are also reportedly under the impression he'll be dismissed from his position.

The start of free agency is just over a month away. The Sixers will be looking to pursue significant names on the open market, and the belief up top is the Colangelo scandal has hurt the team's credibility so much that it wouldn't make sense to keep him on board.
