The Los Angeles Clippers have a big vacancy to fill on their bench for next season.

The Clippers' lead assistant coach, Mike Woodson, will not be returning to the team for the 2018-19 campaign, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Woodson has served on the Clippers staff for the past four seasons. The team will look to replace someone it considered a "top-level, defensive-minded assistant," according to Wojnarowski.

Woodson previously served as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks, compiling a 315-365 record and making five postseason appearances across eight-plus seasons between the two teams. He interviewed to return to the Knicks' head coaching chair last month before the vacancy was filled by David Fizdale.

Woodson might still wind up returning to the Knicks' staff, however, as he told the New York Post early this month - shortly before the team made its announcement - that he'd be open to serving as Fizdale's assistant.
