The New York Knicks will interview former coach Mike Woodson for their head coaching opening Wednesday in Los Angeles, a source told The LA Times' Brad Turner.

Woodson, now an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers, served as the head coach of the Knicks from 2012-14 and said Saturday he'd love to return to finish what he started six years ago.

"At the end of the day, you want to come to New York, based on my body of work there," he said. "I want it to be mutual. I want them to want me. I hope they call me."

The next day, reports emerged that the Clippers granted the Knicks permission to interview Woodson.

The former NBA player guided the Knicks to an overall record of 188-109 (.580) during the regular season and 7-10 (.412) in the postseason. He led them to their last playoff run in 2012-13 - they were eliminated in the conference semifinals in six games - and was fired after the team failed to qualify in 2013-14. Since then, Derek Fisher, Kurt Rambis, and Jeff Hornacek have all manned the sidelines in New York while Woodson served on Los Angeles' coaching staff.

In addition to Woodson, the Knicks will also reportedly meet with Mark Jackson, David Fizdale, Jerry Stackhouse, and David Blatt.

New York finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 29-53 record, missing the playoffs for the fifth straight year. All-Star Kristaps Porzingis suffered a season-ending in February, and while it's unclear when he'll be cleared to play again, he vowed to come back "better and stronger."
