Mike Woodson on time with Knicks: 'Just didn't work out'

Casey Sapio / USA Today Sports

Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the best explanation.

And so we're left to kind of agree with the recently fired Mike Woodson, who summed up his tenure with the New York Knicks in just a few words on NBA TV on Saturday.

"Just didn't work out," Woodson said.

Of course, immediately landing a studio job as an analyst probably helps, though Woodson was clear that he wants to continue coaching:

The last two years, prior to coming into this season, was a good two seasons for our ball club and for our fans, and this year things just didn't work out. Sometimes in life, things just don't work out according to plan.

But I look at it, overall it was a good run and it was a great experience for me from a coaching standpoint

I've got to move on and close the chapter in this book and get ready for a new chapter because I still want to coach, and I love what I do.

Woodson was fired on Monday following a disappointing 37-45 season that saw the Knicks miss the playoffs, the first time Woodson had failed to make the postseason in his last five seasons behind a bench. For his career, Woodson is now 315-365 over nine seasons and has not made it past the second round of the playoffs.

The Knicks, meanwhile, are expected to begin searching for a coach as soon as this week.
