J.R. Smith out vs. Hornets with ankle injury

Justin Ford / USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard J.R. Smith will not play in Sunday's contest versus the Charlotte Hornets due to an ankle injury, according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal.

Smith sustained the injury in Friday night's win over the Washington Wizards.

The 6-foot-6 guard has struggled to find his stroke for the Cavaliers this season, shooting just 34.4 percent from the floor over the team's opening eight games. However, Smith has continued to put up solid counting stats, averaging 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

Swingman Mike Dunleavy will enter the starting lineup in Smith's absence.
