Varejao reportedly won't accept championship ring from Cavs
In one way, nobody in the NBA has been more fortunate the past two seasons than Anderson Varejao. Playing for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, he's been with the cream of the league's crop.
The downside is he's been on the losing side of the last two NBA Finals - 2015 with the Cavs, and this year with the Warriors. Yet because he began 2015-16 with the Cavaliers, he's eligible to collect a championship ring from the organization he spent his first 12 NBA seasons with.
Apparently, however, he doesn't want one, according to FOX Sports Ohio's Sam Amico.
In a way, Varejao is a sympathetic character here. Outside of LeBron James, no player was more synonymous with the Cavs than Varejao for the better part of a decade. Yet business is business, and he was dealt away for the more useful Channing Frye at last season's trade deadline, before joining the Warriors.
The good news for the 33-year-old Brazilian is he's re-signed with the Warriors for next season, and is therefore an overwhelming favorite to properly earn a ring.
