Featherweight Zabit Magomedsharipov is retiring from active competition, he announced Thursday.
Magomedsharipov ends his career with an 18-1 professional MMA record. He recorded six victories in the UFC from 2017-19, earning a unanimous decision win over Calvin Kattar at a UFC Fight Night event in 2019 in his most recent bout.
The 31-year-old earned submission finishes against Mike Santiago and Sheymon Moraes in his first two UFC fights. Magomedsharipov also submitted Brandon Davis via kneebar at UFC 228 in 2018.
The 145-pound Russian teased in April that he planned to become a doctor.
The UFC had scheduled Magomedsharipov to fight Yair Rodriguez in August 2020 before the Mexican fighter pulled out of the bout due to injury.
