Report: UFC eyeing July date for Volkanovski-Holloway 3
The UFC is targeting July for a trilogy fight between featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, sources told MMA reporter Ariel Helwani.
The promotion is currently choosing between a July 2 and July 30 card for the clash, Helwani reports.
Holloway was set to challenge the champion for the 145-pound title in March but withdrew from the fight after aggravating a prior injury. Volkanovski called into question the severity of Holloway's ailment after he was cleared to fight just a couple of weeks after withdrawing from their bout.
Volkanovski (24-1) has won both of his previous matchups against Holloway, which included taking away the 145-pound title in 2019 by unanimous decision and winning a contested split decision in the 2020 sequel bout.
The 33-year-old titleholder recently dispatched Chan Sung Jung, who filled in for Holloway, with a fourth-round TKO at UFC 273.
Holloway (23-6) has strung together back-to-back wins following a pair of defeats to the featherweight champion. The Hawaiian secured a unanimous decision over Yair Rodriguez in his most recent victory last November.
