McGehee lands minor-league deal with Tigers
The Detroit Tigers reportedly bolstered their depth at third base ahead of their first official spring workout for position players, agreeing Tuesday to a minor-league deal with Casey McGehee.
McGehee's volatile career took another disappointing turn last season, when he hit .198/.264/.274 (50 OPS+) with two homers in 109 games between the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins. In 2014, however, McGehee was named National League Comeback Player of the Year, hitting .287/.355/.357 with a career-best 177 hits in 160 games games for the Marlins after spending the previous summer playing with Rakuten of the Japanese Pacific League.
Over parts of seven seasons in the majors, McGehee owns a .708 OPS with with an 8.2 percent walk rate and 16.8 percent strikeout rate in 820 games between the Marlins, Giants, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, and Chicago Cubs.
