Report: Rangers agree to minor-league deal with Ike Davis
Even though he'll remain in the American League West, Ike Davis has found a new home for the 2016 campaign.
The 28-year-old former first-round pick has signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Davis was reportedly in talks with three teams about a deal, including the New York Yankees, but will instead try to win a major-league roster spot with the Rangers. Texas already has Mitch Moreland and Prince Fielder on its depth chart as options at first base.
Davis underwent hip surgery last August, which limited him to 239 plate appearances during his first stint in the AL with the Oakland Athletics.
The first baseman, who struggled to a .229/.301/.350 slash line last season, was once a formidable offensive presence for the New York Mets, belting 32 home runs in 2012.
