Report: Blue Jays, Penny agree to minor-league deal
The Toronto Blue Jays followed Thursday's reported acquisition of Wade LeBlanc with another depth move, signing veteran right-hander Brad Penny to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.
Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports Penny's deal will include a player opt out at the end of spring training.
Penny hasn't pitched in a big-league game since 2014 with the Miami Marlins when he made eight appearances with four starts.
He spent last season with the Chicago White Sox's Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte, posting a 7-10 record with a 4.46 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 24 starts.
The former two-time All-Star owns a career record of 121-101 with a 4.29 ERA in 349 big-league appearances, 319 of which were starts.
