Game 2 of the World Series on Tuesday wasn't just a battle between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. It was also a showdown of some of the best heads of hair in baseball, as Jacob deGrom's voluminous flow matched up against Johnny Cueto's unruly dreadlocks.

Here's a look at the duo and their patented hairstyles throughout Wednesday's crucial contest.

PREGAME LOOK

While both Cueto and deGrom showed the same focus prior to the most important starts of their careers, Cueto's pregame 'do was more tame than deGrom's.

FIRST PITCH FLOW

With the tension of the World Series building, the two dynamic hurlers tossed their first pitches.

BLOWIN' IN THE WIND

In the shivering 52-degree weather of Kauffman Stadium, the right-handers were thankful they had some extra hair to keep them warm, as their flowing locks blew in the gusty Missouri winds.

STYLIN' AND PROFILIN'

Cueto's trademark hairstyle is normally joined by a royal blue do-rag, and Wednesday was no different, while deGrom's wild mane flew into his face during the delivery of some 95 mph heat.

The battle of beautiful hair isn't just a modern day affair either. The matchup between Ron Guidry and Don Sutton in Game 3 of the 1978 World Series - which ESPN's David Schoenfield dug out of the history books - also featured some epic mounds of hair.
