Giancarlo Stanton's return back on hold after scar tissue found in hand
The Miami Marlins are uncertain about Giancarlo Stanton's status, an all-too-familiar scenario for the slugger.
Tests on the 25-year-old's injured left hand showed an "abnormal" amount of scar tissue, which will keep him out of action for an undisclosed period of time, reports Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
Stanton still hopes to play before the end of the season, but he said doctors told him "the strength’s not there. Don’t overdo it. Do what’s manageable."
There's a chance the slow-healing scar tissue could end Stanton's season and possibly take the entire offseason to heal.
"That’s kind of the big speed bump as far as getting the strength back," Stanton said. "That has altered the anatomy of my tendons. So that’s what’s going on."
Stanton has been out since late June, following surgery on a broken hamate bone in his hand.
Prior to the injury, he was hitting .265/.346/.606 with 27 home runs and 67 RBIs.
