Yankees thump Owens for 7 runs at Fenway
It wasn't a good day for Henry Owens.
The Boston Red Sox left-hander was hammered by the New York Yankees on his home turf, allowing seven earned runs on six hits and walking two while allowing two home runs in a 13-8 loss.
After the Red Sox notched a first-inning run against Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees responded with an eight-run second inning against Owens, who surrendered back-to-back home runs to Greg Bird and John Ryan Murphy.
Bird hit a two-run homer, with Murphy launching his solo shot over the Green Monster.
"I think they jumped on (Owens) pretty quickly," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters. "You got a lot of big hits. Stephen Drew had a huge day for us today. He's been really hot, swinging the bat extremely well. Didi (Gregorius) gets on and they just kind of rolled. They put up a big number and we were able to make it stick."
