The Cleveland Indians have scratched ace Corey Kluber from Friday's start against the Detroit Tigers because of a strained right hamstring.

Right-hander Josh Tomlin will start in his place.

The team said that Kluber is expected to pitch again this season, but his absence will make it even tougher for Cleveland to gain ground in the wild-card race.

Indians manager Terry Francona said he'll provide futher details regarding Kluber's injury prior to Friday's game.

Despite a league-leading 13 losses, Kluber's pitched well a season removed from securing the American League Cy Young award. The right-hander leads the league with four complete games and 200 1/3 innings pitched, while fashioning a 3.41 ERA over 28 starts.

The Indians enter Friday having won seven of their last 10 games to remain six back of the second-wild card spot.
