BOSTON - Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been taken out of Boston's game against the Chicago White Sox after getting hit on the left forearm while striking out.
Sandoval took an odd swing at Chris Sale's 0-2 inside fastball and the pitch hit him on the arm Thursday night. As Sandoval doubled over in pain, umpire Bill Miller called Sandoval out to end the fourth inning because he swung.
The team later announced Sandoval sustained a bruised left forearm.
It was the second straight night Sandoval left a game early. He departed in the fifth inning Wednesday night with what the team called dehydration.
Josh Rutledge replaced Sandoval at third.
