The last-place Oakland Athletics welcomed back their marquee offseason acquisition Monday, activating Ben Zobrist off the disabled list after missing more than a month with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Zobrist, who completed his rehab assignment Sunday for Triple-A Nashville, is available off the bench for Monday's Memorial Day game against the Detroit Tigers.
The 33-year-old was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in January and hit .240/.304/.400 in 14 games prior to undergoing surgery to repair his injured left knee.
Outfielder Craig Gentry was optioned to Nashville in a corresponding roster move.
