His career derailed by a ruptured spleen, veteran right-hander Carl Pavano will reportedly attempt to revive his pitching career after missing the entire 2013 season recovering from his freak injury, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
"I've been working out, throwing, just taking things gradually, and we'll see where it brings me," Pavano said. "Even after everything I went through this year, not just medically but missing a whole season, I feel good. I'm still young, so I'm preparing myself like there's a possibility."
Pavano, who turns 38 in January, ruptured his spleen while shoveling snow last winter, an injury that almost took his life, Berardino notes. The right-hander last appeared in the majors in 2012, when he stumbled to a 6.00 ERA across 11 starts with the Twins.
Pavano said he hasn't broached a reunion with the Twins, the organization that employed him from 2009 to 2012.
"I haven't really talked to them," Pavano said. "I don't know if that would be a good fit anyway. I think we're in different places. They need those younger guys in their rotation."
