The New York Yankees added closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for catching prospects Rafael Flores and Edgleen Perez, as well as minor-league outfielder Brian Sanchez, the teams confirmed Thursday.

Bednar, a two-time All-Star, owns a 2.37 ERA with 17 saves in 38 innings for the Pirates this season.

The 30-year-old was optioned to the minors April 1 after a tough start to the 2025 campaign, but he's been solid since returning to the majors April 19.

The Pittsburgh native led the National League in saves with 39 in 2023 before struggling during the 2024 season.

Bednar joins a Yankees bullpen that also includes Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, as well as another new addition in Camilo Doval, who was acquired from the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.

Flores was New York's eighth-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

The 24-year-old owns a .279/.351/.475 slash line with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 97 minor-league games this season.

Perez was the Yankees' 14th-ranked prospect. The 19-year-old Venezuelan was slashing .209/.368/.236 with 26 RBIs in 83 games for Single-A Tampa.

The 21-year-old Sanchez owned an .811 OPS with 36 RBIs and 24 steals in 63 contests, also for Single-A Tampa.

The Yankees were busy on deadline day, acquiring Bednar, Doval, Jake Bird, and José Caballero after adding Ryan McMahon, Amed Rosario, and Austin Slater over the past week.
