Twins trade Bader to Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Harrison Bader from the Minnesota Twins for outfield prospect Hendry Mendez and right-handed pitching prospect Geremy Villoria, the teams confirmed.
This is the second trade between the Phillies and Twins in as many days after Minnesota sent closer Jhoan Duran to Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Bader, 31, fills an immediate need for the Phillies as a right-handed outfield bat with power. He could slide between all three outfield spots and serve as a platoon partner for either Max Kepler in left or Brandon Marsh in center.
Bader is hitting .258/.339/.439 with 12 homers, 38 RBIs, and 10 steals over 96 games with Minnesota this year. Defensively, he's tallied 13 defensive runs saved and five assists bouncing between the three outfield spots.
The nine-year veteran joined the Twins on a one-year, $6.25-million contract during the offseason. His deal also contains a $10-million mutual option for 2026 or a $1.5-million buyout.
Mendez was ranked as the Phillies' No. 12 prospect by MLB.com before the trade. The 21-year-old is hitting .290/.374/.434 with eight homers, 46 RBIs, and 40 walks across 349 plate appearances at Double-A this season.
Villoria, 16, was signed by the Phillies out of Venezuela in January. The 6-foot-2 right-hander made his professional debut with Philadelphia's Dominican Summer League affiliate in June.
