Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford will undergo right wrist surgery and "most likely" miss the remainder of the year, manager Alex Cora told The Boston Globe's Tim Healey.

Crawford has been sidelined since spring training with wrist and knee issues. His wrist injury was caused by an accident that occurred off the field and was not related to irresponsible behaviour.

"It hasn't been a great year for him," Cora said, according to The Associated Press. "It (stinks) that it happened this way, but it's just an accident."

The 29-year-old was attempting to return to the majors but felt wrist soreness during a minor-league rehab assignment at the beginning of June.

He said his wrist "wasn't feeling great" after a recent bullpen, according to The Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr.

Crawford made 33 starts for the Red Sox in 2024, posting a 4.36 ERA while leading MLB with 16 losses.
