The Milwaukee Brewers traded right-hander Aaron Civale to the Chicago White Sox for first baseman Andrew Vaughn, the clubs announced Friday.

The Brewers are also sending money to the White Sox to offset the salary difference between Civale ($8 million) and Vaughn ($5.85 million) for this year.

Civale requested to be dealt Thursday after being demoted to the bullpen following Milwaukee's promotion of top prospect Jacob Misiorowski, who threw five no-hit innings in his debut.

The 30-year-old Civale wanted to be moved so he could be in a starting rotation before potentially testing free agency next offseason. He's logged 658 1/3 innings (122 starts) between the Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Brewers over his seven-year career. The veteran hurler owns a 4.91 ERA with 1.36 WHIP and 19 strikeouts over 22 innings (five starts) in 2025.

Vaughn, the No. 3 pick in the 2019 draft, was optioned to Triple-A in late May after posting the worst fWAR among qualified position players this season. The 27-year-old slashed .189/.218/.314 with five homers, 19 RBIs, and 43 strikeouts in 48 games but he's arbitration-eligible through 2026.

The Brewers assigned Vaughn to their Triple-A affiliate once the trade became official.

Vaughn has been a regular for the White Sox since 2021, appearing in 610 contests. He hit a career-high 21 long balls with 80 RBIs and a .743 OPS in 2023.
