Former MVP Mo Vaughn admits to HGH use during career
Former American League MVP Mo Vaughn recently admitted to using human growth hormone during his playing career.
"I was trying to do everything I could," Vaughn told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. "I knew I had a bad, degenerative knee. I was shooting HGH in my knee. Whatever I could do to help the process."
Vaughn was one of 89 players named in 2007's Mitchell Report, which revealed players who allegedly used performance-enhancing drugs. Former New York Mets batboy and clubhouse employee Kirk Radomski, who reportedly supplied Vaughn with HGH, provided most of the names in the report.
Vaughan was one of MLB's top sluggers from 1993-98 while playing for the Boston Red Sox. During that time, the Connecticut native earned the 1995 AL MVP, three All-Star nods, and a Silver Slugger.
He retired following the 2003 season after hitting 328 home runs with a .906 OPS in 1,512 games between the Red Sox, Anaheim Angels, and New York Mets.
