Marlins DFA García with around $24M left on deal
Miami Marlins outfielder Avisaíl García was designated for assignment, the team confirmed Tuesday.
"Avisaíl has been a consummate professional during his time with the Marlins," club president Peter Bendix said, according to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald. "He was always working hard and was a great teammate along the way. We wish him and his family the best."
García is still owed the rest of his $12-million salary in 2024, $12 million in 2025, and a $5-million buyout on a 2026 option after signing a four-year, $53-million contract in December 2021.
The 2017 All-Star has been on the injured list since April 28 with a hamstring strain.
García, 32, owns a .217/.260/.322 slash line with 13 homers and 49 RBIs over 153 games since signing the deal. He's been plagued by multiple injuries after hitting a career-high 29 homers with 86 RBIs and an .820 OPS over 135 contests for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021.
