Mozeliak says Marmol will return as Cardinals manager in 2024
St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed Oliver Marmol will return as manager in 2024.
"I do support him. I know he'll be back next year. I think the job he does is good," Mozeliak said, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.
The Cardinals enter Friday last in the National League Central with 65 wins in Marmol's second season as skipper. They're on pace for their lowest winning percentage since 1995, when they finished 62-81 during a 143-game campaign.
The Cardinals' season got off to a rough start in April when Marmol and outfielder Tyler O'Neill feuded after the manager called out his player's effort. St. Louis traded a number of players at the deadline, including Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, Jordan Hicks, and Paul DeJong.
While Mozeliak is content with Marmol returning as manager, the executive indicated other changes will be made ahead of next season.
John Mozeliak says he wants Oliver Marmol back at manager for 2024, final year of current contract. Mozeliak adds he expects changes to major league staff. When asked by PD if that meant natural churn or reflection of standings, record, he said: Churn.
