The New York Yankees are getting a key piece of their rotation back soon.
Right-hander Luis Severino will make his first start of the season Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Severino has been sidelined with a lat strain since he suffered the injury during spring training.
The 29-year-old posted a 3.18 ERA with 112 strikeouts over 102 innings for the Yankees last season. However, the two-time All-Star has made a combined 22 regular-season starts since 2019 due to various ailments.
New York has gone 25-19 despite missing Severino, Carlos Rodon, and Frankie Montas from its rotation.
