Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez left Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians with a triceps injury in the fourth inning.

Marquez was making his return from the injured list after being sidelined on April 12 due to right forearm inflammation. After throwing a pitch, Marquez appeared to be in pain and exited immediately after manager Bud Black and training staff visited him on the mound.

The 28-year-old will undergo an MRI on Thursday when the Rockies return to Denver, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. Initial tests done in Cleveland did not show any significant damage, per Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.

Marquez was replaced by Jake Bird, who recorded the final out of the fourth frame. Marquez's day ended having allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four over 3 2/3 innings. He was on a pitch count and was expected to be capped at 75 pitches.

Including Wednesday's outing, Marquez - who sits two strikeouts shy of tying the Rockies' franchise record - now has a 4.95 ERA and 4.68 FIP over 20 innings this year.

The former All-Star and Silver Slugger is in the final guaranteed year of a five-year, $43-million contract.
