The Texas Rangers announced Saturday that they signed left-hander Will Smith to a one-year contract.

Smith will earn $1.5 million in 2023 with an additional $2.5 million available through performance bonuses, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

The 33-year-old reliever posted a 3.97 ERA with 65 strikeouts over 59 appearances between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros last season. He was a member of World Series-winning clubs in 2021 and 2022.

Smith was named an All-Star in 2019 when he pitched for the San Francisco Giants. He played under new Rangers manager Bruce Bochy in San Francisco.

Texas designated infielder Mark Mathias for assignment to make room on the major-league roster.
