Surgery is a possibility for Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers after it was determined that he sustained more damage to his shoulder capsule than originally expected, the team said Thursday, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.

Rodgers dislocated his left shoulder while diving for a ball during a spring training game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

The Gold Glover had his shoulder popped back into place by a trainer.

"This was a pretty classic (shoulder injury)," manager Bud Black said, according to the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders. "The shoulder joint popped out on him and they put it back in.

"We'll likely know more what (Rodgers') status is in the coming day. The degree of trauma in the joint will determine how long he's out. Hopefully, the trauma to the shoulder capsule is not too bad and he's only out a few weeks."

The 2015 third overall draft selection is a big part of the Rockies' defense and is coming off a 2022 campaign where he notched 30 doubles and 63 RBIs.
