The Kansas City Royals signed designated hitter Franmil Reyes to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training, the team announced Wednesday.
Reyes went deep 14 times with 47 RBIs and a .638 OPS over a combined 118 games between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs last season.
However, the 27-year-old slugger has two 30-plus homer seasons under his belt during his five-year run in the majors. He enjoyed a career year in 2021, slashing .254/.324/.522 with 30 round-trippers and 85 RBIs in just 115 contests for Cleveland.
The Royals collectively hit the fifth-least long balls in baseball across the 2022 campaign.
