Report: Nationals ink Kuhl to minor-league contract

The Washington Nationals have added a veteran presence to their rotation, agreeing to a minor-league contract with right-hander Chad Kuhl, according to MASN's Mark Zuckerman.

The pact reportedly comes with an invitation to Nationals spring training.

Kuhl spent the first five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates before joining the Colorado Rockies in 2022.

The 30-year-old owns a 31-41 record with a 4.74 ERA and 505 strikeouts across 576 2/3 career innings.

Kuhl will provide Nationals manager Dave Martinez with another option to complement Josiah Gray, Patrick Corbin, Trevor Williams, Cade Cavalli, and Mackenzie Gore in the rotation.

Washington's starting rotation had the worst combined ERA in baseball (5.97) in 2022 as the team accrued a league-worst minus-1.1 fWAR from its starting pitchers.
