Xander Bogaerts and the Boston Red Sox appear headed for a divorce.

The Red Sox have not presented their free-agent shortstop with a competitive offer ahead of the winter meetings, multiple sources told Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

During spring training, Boston offered him a one-year extension on his previous $30 million deal, Abraham reports. Bogaerts rejected that proposal, leading to tensions between the team and player during the 2022 season.

Boston has been vocal about its efforts to keep Bogaerts - who's manned shortstop at Fenway Park for the last decade - since the offseason began. The sides reportedly had some talks following the regular season before he opted out of his previous deal.

There are between eight and 11 other teams now showing interest in Bogaerts, including the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres, according to Abraham. The Minnesota Twins have also been connected to the 30-year-old this winter.

Bogaerts, who has been meeting with his suitors ahead of the winter meetings, rejected Boston's qualifying offer last month. As a result, whoever signs him will forfeit a draft pick in 2023, while the Red Sox will receive a compensatory pick.

If Bogaerts does leave, the Red Sox can slide Trevor Story back to his natural position of shortstop to replace him.

The four-time All-Star is a lifetime .292/.356/.458 hitter with 156 homers and 683 RBIs during his 10 big-league seasons. Bogaerts was part of five playoff teams in Boston and helped the Red Sox win World Series titles in 2013 and '18.
