Blue Jays blame ex-teammate Baker for dustup: 'Does he think he's a superhero?'

The Toronto Blue Jays didn't have anything nice to say about Baltimore Orioles right-hander Bryan Baker after they believed he incited a benches-clearing incident between the two teams Tuesday.

"When you stare at the person (after getting him out), it's kind of disrespectful," Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said, according to the Toronto Sun's Rob Longley. "Does he think he's a superhero or something?

"We believe that if you look at the dugout, you want problems. You want us to react. It crosses the line a bit."

Baker signaled into Toronto's dugout after getting Teoscar Hernandez to ground into a double play and striking out Matt Chapman to end the seventh inning. The former Blue Jays pitcher allowed a home run to Hernandez the day prior.

Guerrero and Hernandez were two of the more animated players during the incident, with both having to be restrained.

"I guess Baker was mad because (on Monday) I hit a homer off of him," Hernandez said. "Every time he pitches against us, he's just trying to make it a show."

Blue Jays manager John Schneider, ejected during a separate incident in the 9-6 loss, blamed Tuesday's scene on Baker. The skipper said his team was "fed up" with the pitcher, who has apparently shown up his former club more than once.

Baker appeared in one game for the Blue Jays in 2021 after spending several seasons in their farm system. The 27-year-old has become a valuable member of the Orioles bullpen after the team claimed him from Toronto last November.
