Report: Angels won't trade Ohtani; Yankees made serious offer
Shohei Ohtani isn't going anywhere.
The Los Angeles Angels aren't going to trade the two-way phenom before the Aug. 2 deadline, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
The New York Yankees made a serious offer for Ohtani before the Angels decided to move on, while the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres were among the teams who tried to trade for the 28-year-old, Heyman adds.
Ohtani was among the biggest names mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the deadline. The Angels continue to struggle with stars Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon sidelined with injuries.
The 28-year-old previously said he was unsure "what's going to happen in the future" but was staying focused amid lingering trade chatter.
The Japanese sensation has continued to produce as a talented two-way player in 2022. He holds a slash line of .255/.352/.495 while also adding 22 home runs and 62 RBIs. As a pitcher, Ohtani owns a 2.81 ERA, 2.37 FIP, and is averaging 13.1 strikeouts over nine innings.
Ohtani, who has one year of arbitration left, could test free agency as soon as 2023.
