Julio Rodriguez makes Mariners' Opening Day roster
The Seattle Mariners announced on Monday that outfielder Julio Rodriguez made their Opening Day roster.
Rodriguez is one of baseball's top prospects, with MLB Pipeline ranking him third overall behind Kansas City Royals infielder Bobby Witt Jr. and Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.
The 21-year-old Dominican has been tremendous for the Mariners in spring camp, authoring a .419/.471/.839 slash line with three home runs, four doubles, and eight RBIs in 12 games. Rodriguez blasted a mammoth homer and fell a triple shy of the cycle on Sunday against the Royals.
He also torched minor-league pitching to the tune of a .347/.441/.560 slash line across two levels last season.
Rodriguez isn't the only highly touted prospect to recently make an Opening Day roster. The Detroit Tigers announced first baseman Spencer Torkelson made the team, while Witt is reportedly on track to crack the Royals' roster, though no decision has been formally announced.
