Boras: Conforto talking with clubs again after recovering from injury
Free-agent outfielder Michael Conforto has resumed contract negotiations with teams after recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained diving for a ball during a workout in January, his agent Scott Boras said, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Boras added that Conforto wanted to get back to full health before making a decision about his playing future.
"Everyone has been wondering if it's economic," Boras said. "No, it's just him getting back to normal (physically)."
Conforto turned down a one-year, $18.4-million qualifying offer to return to the New York Mets after a down season that saw him finish with 14 home runs and a .729 OPS across 125 games.
Boras said the qualifying offer hasn't been as much of an issue as the shoulder in terms of why the former All-Star remains unsigned with Opening Day just over a week away, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Conforto entered the offseason as one of the top free-agent outfielders available. The 29-year-old hit a career-high 33 homers in 2019 and owns a .255/.346/.468 slash line with 132 round-trippers and 396 RBIs over seven seasons with the Mets.
