White Sox sign Kelly, Harrison, Velasquez
The Chicago White Sox reached agreements with reliever Joe Kelly, infielder Josh Harrison, and starter Vince Velasquez.
Kelly received a two-year, $17-million contract, which includes a club option for 2024. Harrison signed a one-year, $5.5-million deal that includes a $1.5-million buyout on a club option for 2023. Velasquez inked a one-year, $3-million deal.
Kelly is coming off a successful three-year stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping the club to a World Series victory in 2020. He posted a 7-4 record with a 3.59 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 105 1/3 innings for the Dodgers from 2019-21.
The 10-year veteran has also made stops with the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox. Kelly owns a lifetime 50-29 record with a 3.83 ERA and 619 strikeouts in 365 career appearances.
Harrison spent the 2021 campaign with the Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics. The 34-year-old authored a strong season, hitting .279/.341/.400 with eight home runs, 60 RBIs, and nine stolen bases in 138 games.
The 11-year veteran is a career .274/.318/.401 hitter with 64 home runs, 351 RBIs, and 89 stolen bases. Harrison has also made stops with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers.
Velasquez split last season between the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 6.30 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts over 94 1/3 innings.
