Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has been selected as the cover athlete for the 2022 edition of MLB The Show, the franchise announced Monday.

The news was also revealed in New York City's Times Square.

Ohtani became the 11th unanimous choice for American League MVP after a historic 2021 campaign. The 27-year-old hit 46 homers with 100 RBIs and 26 stolen bases while posting a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts across 23 starts as a pitcher.

The Japanese sensation joins the likes of Fernando Tatis Jr., Javier Baez, Bryce Harper, and Aaron Judge among MLB stars to grace the cover of the video game franchise in recent years.
