Seager unsure of Mariners future: I haven't talked to GM in 'probably 4 years'

Kyle Seager is being left in the dark by general manager Jerry Dipoto about whether or not he'll play for the Seattle Mariners in 2022.

"I haven't heard anything," Seager told The Seattle Times' Ryan Divish on Friday. "We haven't had a conversation in years, probably four years. We don't communicate at all. Not even passing by in the hall. If he spoke to my agent or anything like that, I haven't heard anything."

Seager, 33, received a warm ovation from the crowd at T-Mobile Park on Sunday in what might have been his final game with the only MLB franchise he's ever known.

Seager's potential last game with the Mariners was also an emotional occasion for shortstop J.P. Crawford, who was brought to tears while discussing his teammate.

Seager signed a seven-year, $100-million contract extension with Seattle before the 2015 season; the deal included an expensive team option for 2022.

The Mariners can pay Seager $20 million to retain him for one more season or buy him out for $2 million. They're expected to do the latter even though the one-time All-Star produced 35 home runs and 101 RBIs this season.

A third-round draft choice of the Mariners in 2009, Seager ranks fourth in team history in games played, hits, homers, total bases, and RBIs.
