The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed free-agent pitcher Cole Hamels to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

The veteran left-hander will earn $1 million guaranteed plus $200,000 per start, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Hamels will report to the team's Arizona complex to build arm strength before heading to the majors, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles designated right-hander Yefry Ramirez for assignment to make room for Hamels on the 40-man roster.

Hamels last appeared in the big leagues during the 2020 season with the Atlanta Braves but pitched just 3 1/3 innings due to injuries. He recently held a showcase in July, with the Dodgers reportedly among the teams in attendance.

The 37-year-old has spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Braves over his 15-year career. Hamels holds a 163-122 record and 3.43 ERA across his time in MLB.

At his peak, Hamels was one of the league's more dominant southpaws, earning four All-Star appearances and winning a World Series in 2008 with the Phillies.

Los Angeles has heavily focused on strengthening its rotation this summer, acquiring Max Scherzer and Danny Duffy through trades. The Dodgers are currently without Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May due to injuries, while Trevor Bauer is on administrative leave.
