Tigers extend Schoop on 2-year deal reportedly worth $15M
The Detroit Tigers and infielder Jonathan Schoop have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Saturday.
The deal is worth $15 million and contains an opt-out clause after the 2022 season, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Schoop will make $7.5 million in 2022 and 2023 if he doesn't exercise his opt-out clause, Heyman adds.
Schoop hired Scott Boras as his agent earlier this year, usually a sign that a player is headed to free agency. But Schoop said he wanted to stay in Detroit rather than test market. Negotiations were ongoing before trade deadline last week.
