Report: Dodgers, Giants competing to acquire Royals' Duffy

Two National League West rivals appear to be competing for Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are both interested in acquiring the southpaw, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Los Angeles and San Francisco are separated by two games in the NL West standings.

The Dodgers need starting pitching help with Clayton Kershaw injured and Trevor Bauer on administrative leave. Meanwhile, Duffy's addition would give the Giants' rotation plenty of depth.

Kansas City placed Duffy on the 10-day injured list with a left flexor strain July 20. He underwent a separate IL stint with the same injury earlier this season.

The 32-year-old has been effective for the Royals when healthy, authoring a 2.51 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 61 innings.

Duffy, who's stated a desire to stay in Kansas City, is still owed about $7 million of his $15.5-million salary this season. He can block any trade he chooses after he exceeded 10 years of service time, earning him 10-and-5 rights.

Over the course of his 11-year career, Duffy owns a 68-68 record with a 3.95 ERA in 1,172 1/3 innings, all with the Royals.
