Roberts: Seager's fractured hand 'plateaued,' not swinging bat
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager's progress in his recovery from a fractured right hand has hit a bit of a roadblock.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that the broken bone in his hand still has not fully healed, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Roberts described the injury as having "plateaued," and added that Seager's hand "isn't responding" to treatment as the team had hoped.
"He can still feel it when he hits," Roberts said, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. "We're going to put (hitting) on the back burner and slow-play it right now."
There's no concrete timetable for Seager's return. Roberts is still hoping he'll be back at some point in July, ideally before the All-Star break, per DiGiovanna.
Seager sustained the fracture when he was hit by a pitch on May 15. At the time, the team expected he'd miss at least one month.
The 27-year-old, a free agent at season's end, was hitting .265/.361/.422 with four home runs and 22 RBIs when he got hurt.
