Mets acquire Maybin from Cubs to help injury-riddled outfield

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations, the Mets announced Tuesday.

Maybin will head to Triple-A Syracuse. However, the team plans to call him up soon, a source told Tim Healey of Newsday.

The 34-year-old only played for Chicago's Triple-A team in 2021, but Maybin owns 972 hits, 186 stolen bases, and a .700 OPS over 14 years in the majors.

New York's outfield has been devastated by injuries. Brandon Nimmo, Kevin Pillar, Michael Conforto, Albert Almora Jr., and part-time outfielders J.D. Davis and Jeff McNeil are all sidelined.

The Mets' starting outfield currently includes Khalil Lee, Johneshwy Fargas, and Dominic Smith.
