Strasburg says he's day-to-day after leaving spring start with calf injury

Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg exited Sunday's spring training game against the Houston Astros with what he described as a mild calf issue, according to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post.

"It's not something that's going to require any sort (of) long-term recovery. It's definitely good news. So, day-to-day," Strasburg said.

He added that he would've "100%" stayed in the game if it was an important contest.

Strasburg threw 45 pitches before leaving with a team trainer. The three-time All-Star was making his second start of the spring after throwing 1 2/3 frames Tuesday.

The 32-year-old righty only registered five innings in 2020 because of a nerve issue in his hand that resulted in season-ending surgery.

Strasburg, who was named the 2019 World Series MVP, signed a seven-year, $245-million contract with the Nationals in December 2019.
