The New York Mets are interested in signing third baseman Maikel Franco, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Franco played with the Kansas City Royals last season. He spent the first six years of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies, which included three 20-plus homer campaigns.

The 28-year-old slashed .278/.321/.457 with eight round-trippers and 38 RBIs in 60 games for the Royals in 2020.

J.D. Davis, who owns a career .853 OPS over 196 games with the Mets, is currently projected to be New York's starting third baseman on Opening Day.
