The Washington Nationals released newly signed reliever Jeremy Jeffress on Sunday for "personnel reasons," general manager Mike Rizzo said, according to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post.

Washington signed Jeffress to a minor-league deal in late February. The right-hander voiced his displeasure about the situation with a cryptic tweet:

The 33-year-old posted a 1.54 ERA and eight saves over 22 appearances for the Chicago Cubs last season.

Jeffress, who was an All-Star in 2018, owns a career 3.08 ERA over 11 years in the majors.
